taZ Training Week, 2009 Autumn Holidays
Denise Welten and Monica Schneider Egli worked with our students as guest tutors on the intensive training week from 12th to 17th October 2009.
Denise Welten received her dance training at the Zurich Opera Ballet School and at the Royal Ballet School in London. From 1975 to 1997, she was a soloist at the Zurich Opera, the London Festival Ballet/ English National Ballet, and the Royal Swedish Ballet. She was also an invited ballerina at London City Ballet. Her career includes numerous guest appearances across the world, among others at the Bolschoi Theatre (Moscow), Kirov Theatre (St. Petersburg), and in China and the United States. She has been a Ballet Mistress at the Norwegian National Ballet in Oslo and at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm. From 1996 to 2000, she was head of the Swiss Professional Ballet School Foundation (SBBS) in Zurich. She has served as a guest tutor at several acclaimed companies, including the Cullberg Ballet (Stockholm), the German Opera on the Rhine (Düsseldorf), the Bavarian State Ballet (Munich), and the Zurich Opera. In May 2007, she was appointed director of the St Gallen Theatre Dance School, and is Ballet Mistress of the St Gallen Theatre dance company.
Monica Schneider Egli graduated from the University of Mainz in 1994 with a degree in sports and a major in dance. She continued her studies at the Iwanson School of Contemporary Dance in Munich where she successfully completed a three-year programme in Stage Dance and Dance Education. From 1998 to 2000, she appeared at the Stadttheater Giessen in Germany in choreographies of
Roberto Galvan and Rui Horta, and thereafter performed in Switzerland as a member of various dance companies, including James Sutherland (Königsfelder Festspiele), Bruno Steiner (MOVERS DANCE COMPANY) and Philipp Egli (Molteni tanzt). Under the direction of Philipp Egli, she was a dancer and choreographic assistant at St Gallen Theatre from 2001 to 2009, where she was responsible for company training sessions and rehearsal direction, for developing and overseeing dance productions by inhouse and guest choreographers, and for inhouse musicals and operettas. Besides teaching at the St Gallen Dance School and the Danceloft Rorschach and delivering an increasing number of workshops in Germany and Switzerland, she has now started two further training programmes (Pilates, APM).
